Bursary and Scholarship Information
Bursary and scholarship monies are
offered by several levels of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada: council,
diocesan, provincial and national levels.
Five bursaries are available. To
quickly see which bursaries are relevant for you, see the basic information

Catholic
Women’s League, Immaculate Conception Parish Scholarship
Application
Criteria:
- The
applicant must practice the Roman Catholic faith.
- The
applicant must be a Grade 7 student of Immaculate Conception School.
- The
applicant must be registered in a Catholic high school.
- The
bursary must be applied towards tuition.
- The
applicant's family must be involved in the school and parish community.
- Preference
is given to Immaculate Conception Parish parishioners.
Application Requirements:
- Complete application
form
- A letter with the following
information will be used to help select a candidate for the bursary:
- letter must be prepared
and handwritten by the applicant
- applicant's goals
and educational plans to achieve these goals
- summary of volunteer
work, achievements, interests, and activities in the school, church and
community
- information on the
applicant's family -which school(s) siblings attend/have attended.
- A photocopy of the applicant's
latest report card.
General Information:
- Completed applications
are to be submitted to Immaculate Conception School.
- Application must be submitted
by the date chosen by I.C.S. principal.
- Late applications will
not be considered.
- Financial need is a consideration.

Father
Leahy Memorial Bursary
Application
Criteria:
- The
applicant must be a practicing Catholic.
- The
applicant must be a member of a family who has been registered in Immaculate
Conception Parish for a minimum of three years.
Application Requirements:
- Complete application
form.
- A letter with the following
information prepared and written by the applicant:
- Summary of interests,
hobbies, activities, achievements and volunteer activities in the school,
church and community
- Information concerning
prizes, bursaries, scholarships or awards won
- Goals being pursued
through post-secondary education
- Any additional information
the C.W.L. bursary committee should be aware of when considering an application.
- Two letters of recommendation.
The references cannot be from family. The references should be from people
familiar with the applicant's performance records. For example, one could
be from a teacher.
- A transcript of marks
from the last year of studies.
General Information:
- Bursary is $1000.00
- The bursary committee
may choose to split the bursary between 2 candidates.
- The bursary may be used
at any post-secondary institution and for any year of studies.
- Financial need will be
considered.
- Application forms are
obtained from Immaculate Conception Parish office.
- Deadline for applications
is May 30.
- Late applications will
not be considered.
- Completed applications
are to be submitted to Immaculate Conception Parish pastor.
- The bursary will be paid
upon proof of payment of tuition. The full bursary is paid if fees are paid
for two semesters. Otherwise, one half of the bursary, $500.00, is paid upon
proof of payment for the first semester, the second half of the bursary, $500.00,
is paid upon proof of payment for the second semester.

Vancouver
Archdiocesan Council CWL Bursary
Who may apply:
Daughters or sons of CWL members in Vancouver Archdiocese who will be attending
the first year program of an approved post-secondary institution.
Amount of
Bursary: $500.00 (Two bursaries are awarded).
Applications
must be with bursary committee by: March 31.

Criteria and Guidelines:
- The applicant must practice
the Roman Catholic Faith.
- Applicant's mother/guardian
must have been a member of a Vancouver Archdiocesan CWL council in the year
prior to application. Exception: where a student who is 16 years old or older
and is a CWL member in the year prior in Vancouver Archdiocese may apply.
- Financial need must be
established.
- Bursary monies will be
given upon proof of payment of tuition fees by December 31st of the year following
receipt of the bursary.
- An application must be
accompanied by a letter prepared in the applicant's own words and handwriting,
containing the following:
- applicant's goals
and aspirations along with educational plans to obtain these goals.
- a summary of achievements,
interests, and activities in school, church, and community.
- An application must include
the following: (Each request is scored to determine the successful applicants).
- applicant's personal
letter
- photocopy of school
marks received to date this year
- application form
fully completed
- a letter from your
pastor stating that you are a practicing Roman Catholic
- a letter from the
school principal or teacher, giving information about your school performance
and involvement, and financial need.
- another letter of
reference from a person (other than a family member) who has known you
for some time and is familiar with your performance and activities.
- All applications must
be with the Education Chairperson by March 31.
- The Bursary Committee
decisions will be final. The bursary will be presented at the Archdiocesan
convention. It is hoped that the successful applicants will be able to attend
the presentation, however, this is not a requirement.

Molly
Boucher Bursary (Provincial CWL Bursary)
Who may apply:

Applications

Application Criteria:
- Applicant must have
been an active member of the CWL for at least 2 years.
- The application form
must be fully completed and then signed by the applicant, the parish C.W.L.
president and the parish priest. It must be accompanied by letters as outlined
in the criteria.
- A letter written by the
applicant must be included and should outline briefly her goals and aspirations
along with her reasons for her interest in pursuing these goals. The letter
must demonstrate a keen interest in parish life and indicate a willingness
to serve the Church.
- A letter of reference
from a person (not a family member) who has known the applicant for some time
and is familiar with her performance and activities.
- All applications must
be on the current application form and no other forms will be accepted. The
completed application forms and other information requested must be submitted
to the B.C. & Yukon provincial chairperson of Education and Health by
March 31st. Any applications arriving after March 31st will not be considered
and will be returned.

The
Catholic Women’s League of Canada National Bursary
Who may apply:
CWL member with a minimum of 3 consecutive years of service prior to date of
application. Applicants must be pursuing studies in adult faith formation and/or
youth ministry.
Amount of
bursary: unknown
Applications
must be with bursary committee by: December 31.
Completed
applications sent to: CWL National Office, 1-160 Murray Park Rd., Winnipeg,

Applications
forms obtained from: Immaculate Conception Parish Office
Criteria and Guidelines:
- Applicant must be a member
of the CWL with a minimum of three consecutive years of service prior to date
of application.
- Applicants must demonstrate
an active involvement in pastoral services or be prepared to serve in her
parish or diocese.
- Studies for which the
bursary is awarded must take place within one year.
- Studies to be pursued
are to be in the areas of adult faith formation and/or youth ministry (eg.
courses, seminars, workshops and diploma programs). Degree programs and United
States college courses are not eligible.
- Applicant receiving an
award may reapply for a maximum of two additional years.
- Two letters of recommendation
must accompany the completed application form. One letter of recommendation
must be from the applicant's CWL parish council president; the other letter
from another person.
- Applications must be
made on the official form.
- Applications must be
received at national office no later than December. Awards will be announced
no later than March 31st of the following year.
